Hi again, welcome back to BEAM FROM THE BOOTH, the official newsletter of the GRAND RAPIDS FILM SOCIETY.
We’re just about to kick-off some really exciting programming for June, but first, we’re bringing our all-to-brief MAY’D IN MICHIGAN series to a close THIS WEDNESDAY (5/28) at 8pm with our screening of the mitten state-based comedy ESCANABA IN DA MOONLIGHT (2001).
This very special screening will host the films cinematographer RICH BRAUER for a Q&A following the film!

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4th: OPEN PROJECTOR NIGHT
[SUPPORT MICHIGAN INDEPENDENT FILM]
Celebrate short films with the Open Projector Night series, a recurring cinematic event presenting the work of local, regional, and national filmmakers with a Michigan connection. Enjoy a diverse range of movies from animated narratives, and commercial work, to experimental pieces. After the event, participate in a question-and-answer panel with the filmmakers and vote for your favorite short film.

MONDAY, JUNE 9th: BLUE VELVET
[THE MAN FROM ANOTHER PLACE: A DAVID LYNCH RETROSPECTIVE]
College student Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) returns home after his father has a stroke. When he discovers a severed ear in an abandoned field, Beaumont teams up with detective's daughter Sandy Williams (Laura Dern) to solve the mystery. They believe beautiful lounge singer Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini) may be connected with the case, and Beaumont finds himself becoming drawn into her dark, twisted world, where he encounters sexually depraved psychopath Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper).
MONDAY, JUNE 23rd: BOTTOMS
Unpopular best friends PJ and Josie start a high school fight club to meet girls and lose their virginity. They soon find themselves in over their heads when the most popular students start beating each other up in the name of self-defense.

Our signature FREE social event returns! Join like-minded Grand Rapids film fans and filmmakers for an evening of discussion and mingling.
MONDAY, JUNE 30th: WILD AT HEART
[THE MAN FROM ANOTHER PLACE: A DAVID LYNCH RETROSPECTIVE]
After serving prison time for a self-defense killing, Sailor Ripley (Nicolas Cage) reunites with girlfriend Lula Fortune (Laura Dern). Lula's mother, Marietta (Diane Ladd), desperate to keep them apart, hires a hit man to kill Sailor. But he finds a whole new set of troubles when he and Bobby Peru (Willem Dafoe), an old buddy who's also out to get Sailor, try to rob a store. When Sailor lands in jail yet again, the young lovers appear further than ever from the shared life they covet.
